A-Wing Lancaster Branding

We were tasked with the exciting challenge of branding the former Lancaster prison, into a pop up event space now known as A-Wing.

During our branding research we discovered that Lancaster Prison’s C-Wing cell block is a true panopticon built in 1821 by Joseph Gandy. As the panopticon design was conceived as a way of keeping all inmates under constant watch, the idea of using an ‘eye’ emerged.

The poster concept; ‘contraband’ came from our conversations about how the events seemed to be smuggling the excitement and energy of music into a repressive space.
